In my First Year Seminar this morning we watched the movie called Klansville USA. This movie depicted the Ku Klux Klan in 1960’s North Carolina. This movie showed the wide movement of The Ku Klux Klan (KKK) in the 1960’s. In the Peak the KKK had over 10,000 members in the state of North Carolina. The KKK was flourishing until the federal and state government began to crack down on them. One of the reasons the KKK began because the white Americans felt threatened by the civil rights movement. This was mainly because the poor white Americans didn’t want to be lower on the food chain because of the African Americans having more rights.

This movie was a real eye opener for me I never really understood the struggles of the African Americans during the civil rights moment and really gave me the understanding of what it means to be white. Not only what it means to be white but the way that people look at African Americans and white people differently. It really shows that where you grow up and the way you are uncultured impacts your life.
